DustCount 9000 Personal ATEX Particulate Monitor
The DustCount 9000 is a compact, portable optical particle counter (OPC) for real-time monitoring of dust concentrations in the workplace. The instrument combines real-time measurements of dust exposure with an integrated filter cassette for additional gravimetric or compositional analysis.
The DustCount 9000 is designed for personal exposure measurements of silica, wood, metal and coal dust among others, and is suitable for industrial hygiene, occupational safety and research applications alike.
How the DustCount 9000 works
The DustCount 9000 combines two measuring methods in one compact instrument: real-time dust monitoring and gravimetric sampling.
Using Optical Particle Counter (OPC) technology, the DustCount continuously measures dust concentration, particle counts and particle size distribution for PM2.5, PM4 and PM10. This provides immediate insight into exposure and peak concentrations. In addition, the DustCount has an integrated 25 mm filter cassette. During the measurement, a representative dust sample is collected on a standard PTFE or PVC filter. This filter can then be analysed by an accredited laboratory for:
- Gravimetric determination of the dust mass;
- Analysis of the dust composition;
- Determination of silica (RCS) using FTIR;
- Specific dust characterisation, such as wood, metal or coal dust.
The laboratory results can then also be used to calibrate the real-time measurements for the specific type of dust.
For occupational hygienists and safety professionals, this means that a single instrument can deliver both real-time exposure information and a legally and analytically substantiated dust sample, without using a separate pump or additional sampling equipment.
