The Safecide 2.1 from ChemDAQ Incorporated is a portable, handy gas monitoring system for measuring occupational exposure to ethylene oxide (EtO), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or peracetic acid (PAA). The instrument has two different settings: the Environment Sampling Mode for measurements at fixed points, or the Industrial Hygiene mode for time-weighted average (TWA) exposure (TWA 8 hours & TWA 15 minutes). The SafeCide 2.1 is fully portable and can easily be taken onto the shop floor to check for leaks, identify hotspots, or monitor the off-gassing of ethylene oxide, hydrogen peroxide or peracetic acid at specific locations.
The Safecide 2.1 takes fast, accurate, real-time measurements of chemical vapours at ppm level. It also has Bluetooth, so the measurement data can be viewed on a mobile phone or tablet. In addition to Bluetooth, the SafeCide 2.1 lets you track and export exposure data to the cloud
for ongoing analysis.
The SafeCide 2.1 always works together with ChemDAQ's E-Cell sensors. E-Cell sensors are equipped with Bluetooth technology that communicates readings to the SafeCide device from up to 10 metres away, for extra worker safety and ease of operation. From the SafeCide 2.1 you can view and share the measurement data in various ways, such as uploading it to the cloud, transferring it directly to a PC via a USB-C cable, or exporting it to external storage. The E-Cell sensors use a traffic light icon to indicate whether the sensor is working properly. A green LED indicates that everything is OK, an amber LED indicates that the sensor is due for replacement, and the red LED makes clear that your sensor must be replaced immediately.
Hospitals and the food industry.
Ethylene oxide (EtO) is a sterilising chemical used in hospitals and in the medical device manufacturing industry to decontaminate medical instruments and equipment that cannot be sterilised with heat or steam. It is a colourless chemical that has a sweet aroma at high concentrations (>250 pm). EtO is highly flammable and reactive at room temperature.
Hydrogen peroxide is a sterilising chemical used in hospitals and on aseptic filling lines in food processing. Sterilising chemicals are selected for their ability to kill all forms of microbial life, including bacteria in their highly resistant spore form. H₂O₂ has the advantage of being environmentally friendly, but both the liquid and the colourless vapour are highly reactive and potentially hazardous.
Peracetic acid (PAA) is a disinfecting chemical used by hospitals and the food processing industry. It is highly effective at killing microscopic organisms hiding in and on surfaces, but it decomposes into acetic acid and therefore leaves no harmful residues on food. PAA is a colourless liquid, highly reactive, with a strong vinegar-like odour that can be smelled at very low levels.
