The WatchGas POLI N2O Nitrous Oxide Detector is a portable nitrous oxide detector for measuring nitrous oxide. The POLI N2O detector is available as a pumped model with an integrated gas sampling pump or as a diffusion model. The device has an intuitive menu that can be operated with two buttons. It also has a large LCD screen that rotates automatically, which makes it a versatile and user-friendly device.
The POLI nitrous oxide detector is equipped with useful extra functions such as a data log for further analysis of your measurement values. The portable nitrous oxide detector has the advantage that other sensors can also be added so that you can measure several gases at the same time. For example, you can add a catalytic LEL sensor to detect flammable/explosive gases, an H2S/CO sensor to detect hydrogen sulphide and carbon monoxide, or an NH3 sensor to monitor ammonia levels. And of course there is a choice of many more types of sensor for toxic gases, or a PID sensor for volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Nitrous oxide is mainly used medically, mixed with oxygen. This type of nitrous oxide is used as an anaesthetic by dentists among others, but increasingly also as a recreational drug. Nitrous oxide is also used as a propellant, as is well known from whipped cream dispensers. Finally, as a greenhouse gas nitrous oxide is 265 times as powerful as CO2, which means emissions in the chemical industry must also be prevented as far as possible.
The main sources of nitrous oxide are agriculture, in particular the use of manure and artificial fertiliser. Nitrous oxide is released by ploughing land, for example. The chemical industry is a major source through the production of nylon, for example. Energy producers are a source through the combustion of fossil fuels, and nitrous oxide can also be released during waste incineration.
The hazards of nitrous oxide are varied. First of all, nitrous oxide is an oxidising substance, which means that it promotes fire and will feed the fire with oxygen, resulting in a more intense fire. In addition, nitrous oxide is usually transported in pressurised cylinders. These cylinders can explode as a result of heat or physical stress, with all the extreme consequences that entails.
A good portable nitrous oxide detector can be useful in tracing escaping nitrous oxide, with a range up to 1000 ppm and a resolution of 1 ppm.
The WatchGas N2O Nitrous Oxide Detector is a portable instrument for monitoring nitrous oxide. This can be useful in spaces where nitrous oxide is used, such as hospitals, birth centres and N2O storage facilities. On the other hand, nitrous oxide cylinders can also incidentally end up in waste, creating a risk of explosion. In waste processing, a nitrous oxide detector can therefore also be used to prevent nitrous oxide hazards.
