In some situations electromagnetic fields can involve additional risks. Since 1 July 2016 you are therefore obliged as an employer to take measures if these so-called EMFs really are strong enough to be harmful to health. There are all kinds of situations in which electromagnetic fields arise: during the generation, transmission and use of electricity, but also during induction heating or the wireless transmission of information. This means that electromagnetic fields are almost everywhere, for example around mobile phones, office equipment and hand tools. As long as your employees are only exposed to the EMFs that the rest of the population is exposed to as well, there is usually no obligation to provide additional protection.
If exposure is higher, you may indeed be obliged to give your employees additional protection. This is often the case in a company with a lot of welding equipment, electrolysis installations or radar antennas and transmitter installations for mobile telephony.
