Traditional LEL sensors work with a catalytic filament. This is heated to a temperature of hundreds of degrees to make gas ignite inside the sensor. Heating the catalytic filament takes a fair amount of power. The LEL sensor in the MultiGasClip IR works on the infrared principle. An infrared light source shines through the gas flow. Different types of gas refract infrared light in different ways. By measuring this refraction, the LEL sensor in the MultiGasClip determines whether flammable gases are present in the atmosphere.
The infrared light source uses far less energy than a traditional LEL sensor. As a result, the MultiGasClip runs for much longer at a stretch. Optimal protection for your employees, in other words! The MultiGasClip lasts 60 days on a single battery charge, without being recharged in between. Other advantages of the infrared sensor are that it does not need oxygen to detect flammable gas and cannot be poisoned by high concentrations of certain flammable gases. A traditional LEL sensor is available as well, incidentally. With a battery life of 30 hours, that one performs pretty well too!
The Multi Gas Clip is a gas detector for O2, LEL, CO and H2S. This MGC works perfectly in both oxygen-deficient and oxygen-enriched conditions. The LEL sensor cannot be poisoned by silicones.
