WatchGas SST4 Micro 4-gas detector
The SST4 series from WatchGas is a four-gas detector designed for users who value simplicity and a small format. The compact yet robust design of the WatchGas SST4 Micro is made possible by the use of a MEMS LEL sensor. In addition to the LEL sensor, this device has room for three of the following sensors: Oxygen (O2), Hydrogen sulphide (H2S), Carbon monoxide (CO) and Sulphur dioxide (SO2). It also carries an ATEX approval of the type: II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga, which means the device may also be used in ATEX zone 0.

MEMS LEL sensor
The WatchGas SST4 Micro uses a MEMS LEL sensor, which makes the compact design of this model possible. This is a special type of Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) sensor that detects flammable vapours and gases. It uses a microscopic membrane with a built-in heat source and thermometer to measure changes in the thermal properties of the surrounding air and gases. When a flammable gas is present, the sensor membrane heats up, changing the thermal properties. This change is detected by the thermometer and converted into an electrical signal, which is then processed to determine the LEL concentration. Advantages of MEMS LEL sensors are:
