The SP 95 Impact Ball is a compact and reproducible measuring instrument for testing impact sound in lightweight floor constructions. In situations where a standard tapping machine delivers too heavy an impact, the SP 95 offers a realistic and controlled alternative. The ball is designed in accordance with the ISO 10140-5 and ISO 16283-2 standards and is intended to simulate soft human impact, such as walking or jumping.
With its compact size, low mass and straightforward use, the SP 95 is ideal for sound insulation research, field testing and building inspections in which a soft impact is required.
The SP 95 consists of a silicone rubber ball with a diameter of 180 mm and a weight of 2.5 kg. Its operation is simple: the ball is dropped vertically onto the floor in free fall from a height of 1 metre. This produces a consistent, reproducible impact comparable to human disturbance, without overloading the structure.
The impact generates vibrations in the low-frequency range from 31.5 Hz to 500 Hz, which makes the ball particularly suitable for measurements in lighter buildings and floating floor systems. The test results are reproducible and standard-compliant, so the SP 95 is excellently suited to both laboratory and field measurements.
Lightweight building structures
Testing impact sound where a standard tapping machine would be too powerful.
Education and research
Simulating realistic human activity such as jumping or walking in practical acoustic situations.
Acoustic design and validation
Used in construction projects for quality control of sound insulation in lightweight floors.
Factory testing of building materials
Testing innovative or sensitive floor constructions in laboratory environments.
Soft impact source for lightweight structures
Compliant with international standards
Meets ISO 10140-5:2021 and ISO 16283-2:2015.
Compact and easy to handle
Weighs just 2.5 kg with a diameter of 180 mm
Low-frequency impact
Effective in the frequency range from 31.5 Hz to 500 Hz.
Reproducible measurements
Consistent free fall from 100 cm for repeatable measurement results.
Maintenance-free & durable
Made of silicone rubber, easy to wash with water and resistant to intensive use.
Comfortable carrying bag included
The SP 95 is the right choice for acousticians, structural engineers and researchers who work with lightweight floor systems and want to measure low impact levels. Where a tapping machine delivers too much force or could disturb the floor construction, the SP 95 offers an accurate and representative test method.
Thanks to its ease of use, compact design and accurate measurement behaviour, the SP 95 is extremely well suited to situations requiring a reproducible soft impact, both in the laboratory and on site.
With its reliability, standards compliance and ease of use, the SP 95 Impact Ball is a fitting sound source within modern building acoustics.
