A quantitative face fit test is only as reliable as the connection between the mask and the measuring instrument. The fit test adapter provides that connection: it links the mask under test to the fit tester in an airtight and reproducible way. Because masks differ significantly in their connection type (bayonet, threaded, brand-specific fittings), each mask type requires the right adapter.
OHD supplies adapters for masks from more than 20 leading manufacturers. Which adapter you need depends on two things: the measurement principle of the fit tester (CNP or CNC) and the specific mask to be tested.
The QuantiFit2 works with Controlled Negative Pressure. With this method, the mask is sealed off and the instrument uses a slight negative pressure to directly measure air leakage through the facial seal. Air is the only challenge agent; no particles, alcohol or other consumables are involved.
The CNP adapters are designed accordingly:
They seal off the mask's inhalation port(s) in an airtight manner, replacing the filter or cartridge in the process.
They connect the mask to the QuantiFit2 via the measuring hose, so that the negative pressure can be built up in a controlled way.
The connection is mask-specific and fits exactly onto the filter port or connection thread of the mask in question.
These adapters are designed for the CNP method and are used in combination with the QuantiFit2.
The AeroFit works with Condensation Nuclei Counting. This method determines the fit factor by comparing the particle concentration inside and outside the mask. Here the adapter serves a different function than with CNP: it draws an air sample from the breathing zone inside the mask, while the mask otherwise remains in normal use.
Depending on the mask type, this is done in one of two ways:
On elastomeric half and full-face masks, the adapter connects to the filter port and routes a sample line from the breathing zone to the instrument.
On disposable masks (FFP/N95), a temporary sampling point is created in the mask using a probe and push nut.
Because the particle-counting measurement principle is shared, these CNC adapters are not limited to the AeroFit. The same adapters can be used on other CNC-based face fit testers, including the TSI PortaCount and the AccuFIT 9000.
The choice is determined by the combination of fit tester and mask. In addition, some adapters require a connection piece from the mask manufacturer, which can be purchased together with the OHD adapter.
