Svantek SV 103 Hand-Arm Vibration Meter
The SV 103 vibration meter is designed for measuring hand-arm vibration. The SV 103 measures A(8) vibration exposure in accordance with ISO 5349-2 and European Directive 2002/44/EC, both in m/s² and in points. The exposure time is recorded automatically by means of the force detection sensor and can be logged in the PC software. The instrument complies with ISO 8041:2021 for equipment measuring human exposure to vibration. The SV 103 Human Vibration Meter considerably reduces measurement uncertainty, because the instrument is attached to the user's arm and is small enough to carry out daily vibration exposure measurements without disrupting normal work activities.
The SV 103 Human Vibration Meter uses Svantek's latest accelerometer, the SV 107, which, in addition to the standard accelerometer, also has a contact force sensor. The contact force is the sum of the grip force and the push force, and is therefore a measure of how firmly a user holds the vibrating tool. This is a recommendation of the new standards, and the value from the contact force sensor is also shown on the display.
The SV 107 accelerometer is based on MEMS, the very latest in transducer technology. MEMS offers many advantages, including shock resistance, very low power consumption and a frequency response down to DC. The use of MEMS breaks through the technological barrier of weight and dimensions, and additionally reduces the cost of the complete system.
Application
Hand-arm vibration occurs when one or both upper limbs come into contact with a vibrating surface (for example power tools, steering wheels and levers used to control vehicles). Changes in the human body resulting from contact with mechanical vibration are recognised as an occupational disease called “HAVS” (Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome). The only effective way to prevent vibration-related disorders is prevention. Working with vibrating tools such as sanders, nail guns, leaf blowers and pneumatic hammers can lead to “white and/or dead” fingers and to joint complaints in the hands and arms. These complaints arise because the vibration causes damage to blood vessels, nerves, bones, muscles or joints.
