Svantek SV 973A – Class 2 sound level meter for professional noise monitoring
The Svantek SV 973A is a class 2 sound level meter designed for accurate noise measurements in accordance with IEC 61672-1:2013. This compact and rugged device (250 g) offers a wide measuring range of 25 to 129 dB (peak up to 141 dB with the noise exposure function), ideal for workplace, environmental and building acoustics applications. With an advanced MEMS microphone with lifetime warranty, real-time 1/1 and 1/3 octave band analysis, RT60 reverberation time measurements, STIPA speech intelligibility measurements and WAV audio recording, the SV 973A is a versatile solution for professionals.
The SV 973A supports low-power Bluetooth connectivity for integration with the Assistant PRO app (iOS and Android), allowing users to manage measurements remotely and carry out STIPA or RT60 analyses. The auto-calibration function, 8 GB memory and Supervisor software make the instrument user-friendly and suitable for extensive noise analysis, as required by standards such as ISO 9612, OSHA, MSHA and IEC 60268.

When should you choose the SV 973A?
The Svantek SV 973A is a class 2 sound level meter that stands out thanks to its combination of precision and portability, specifically designed for professional noise monitoring. With a measuring range of 25 to 129 dB (extendable to 141 dB peak) and a frequency range up to 10 kHz, the SV 973A delivers reliable measurements across a wide variety of applications. The dual MEMS microphone with lifetime warranty ensures exceptional durability.
A distinguishing feature is the support for RT60 reverberation time and STIPA speech intelligibility measurements, made possible by the Assistant PRO app. In classrooms, for example, the SV 973A measures the reverberation time in order to optimise acoustic conditions (recommended maximum 0.6 seconds for rooms up to 566 m³), while STIPA measurements in public spaces such as airports or stations assess the effectiveness of announcement systems in accordance with IEC 60268.
SV 973A vs. SV 971A
The Svantek SV 973A and SV 971A are both advanced sound level meters designed for professional applications, but they differ in class, functionality and ideal use cases. The SV 973A is a class 2 sound level meter, optimised for versatile noise measurements in workplaces and environmental monitoring, whereas the SV 971A is a class 1 sound level meter, suitable for applications requiring higher precision, such as building acoustics and sound insulation measurements. For building acoustics measurements according to ISO 1683 and the associated measurement standards, a class 1 microphone is mandatory. A class 2 microphone does not actually meet the accuracy requirements.
